Family Law, Honestly

Family law is where legal-plan marketing usually gets slippery. Here’s the version we’d want to hear ourselves.

What’s a covered service

  • Uncontested divorce, separation, or annulment — covered, after a 180-day waiting period, for the member, uncontested matters only
  • Prenuptial and postnuptial agreements — covered after 180 days
  • Uncontested minor-child adoption — covered after 180 days
  • Uncontested name change — covered after 180 days

What’s advice + letters + 25% off (not full representation)

Contested matters — custody fights, contested divorce, support disputes. For these, the plan gives you unlimited consultation (including on situations already underway), document review, letters where appropriate, legal research, and 25% off the firm’s hourly rate for representation. It does not hand the case to a lawyer to run as an included service — and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling, not helping.

Who this is genuinely right for

People who want a lawyer to call all month while they navigate a family situation — what to document, what to sign, what to expect — and a real discount when representation is needed. At $49.95/month, that ongoing access is the value. If what you need today is a courtroom advocate on an emergency basis, start with your state bar’s referral service, and we’ll be honest about that on the first call.

Affordable Legal Support is operated by an independent associate of LegalShield. Affordable Legal Support is not a law firm and does not provide legal services, representation, or advice. Legal services are provided by independent provider law firms to members through membership-based participation. Benefits, availability, and conditions vary by state; certain services involve waiting periods or additional fees. See a plan contract for complete terms.
